Game Vision Statement
Game Vision Statement
As I have stated in a previous blog I have decided to do my final game design on a driving game. In my past blog I roughly explained what the game would be about and some of my planned functions within the game that the player will notice when playing the game.Below I will be further going into depth about certain aspects of the game so that the player will know what the game will be about before actually getting to play the game, unless they really want to go into the game with no knowledge of what the game is about then reading beyond is pointless.
Game Genre
The game genre of the game I will be creating during this module will be a Racing / Driving / Platformer game. This will be the genre of the game because it will be fairly similar to a game I played before called trackmania. In trackmania you go from level to level trying to get the fastest time and you can get medals when achieving certain times in tracks. There is also a secret medal called the author medal which is awarded to those who beat the map makers time, this medal is green in colour and the rest of the medals are bronze, silver and gold.
Gameplay
As I said in the previous paragraph the gameplay will be similar to a classic game called trackmania that has been around for a good while now originally released on November 21st in 2003 (1) . In this game I will be creating I will be putting my own sort of twist on the game. In trackmania the goal is simple get from start to finish in the fastest time possible. What I will be creating will be done in a way where the player gets more freedom of what the do. The player will be able to fully drive around a map collecting things such as coins, secrets maybe car upgrades. I want the map to feel like there is some fun to it almost like a sandbox except the player can't make what they want but instead use whatever they see however they want. If the player sees a ramp and a building in the distance the player has the freedom to drive as fast as he can go for the ramp and make a huge leap of faith and try land on top of the building, and who knows maybe there will be something secret on top. Maybe there will be a pile of gold, maybe a cool car upgrade that gives your car wings. However that is just something i have in mind. Something else I want to implement to the gameplay is a shop where the player can spend their well earned in game currency on car upgrades, which could be things like changing the colour of the car or it could be a speed tune where they can add +20 speed or something of the sorts. Lastly I want the game to have more than one location in it where the player doesn't have to drive around the same old place for hours straight. I want to create different areas such trackmania have done in their games. In trackmania in the past they have had different levels and maps and the maps included desert maps, arctic maps and city maps. I want my game to have something like that. 1 map that I could build is a city map with many different spots that the player can do something with their car and they can jump on to a building and then from one buillding to another. Another map I want to build is a desert or grass map where the player has to use natural hill biomes to do other things like collecting coins in the air etc.
This is the end for now and these are my plans for the game now but I will probably think of some other ways that the player can interact with the maps to make it more fun. I'm only at the start of creating ideas for the maps and I'm sure whilest I'm making the game that some random idea may come into my head and will be a great addition to the game.
Resources can be found below for the game I used as an example trackmania :
Image is of the original trackmania logo which was also found on the article I read about the game that I still play to this day.If you haven't played it I suggest you give it a try it is very fun and addictive.
