 Reading about Game Design


The simple definition to explain what a game is of "play activity with rules" doesn't really explain what a game is too well. In my opinion a game is way more complicated than a "play activity with rules" because I feel that a game needs to immerse you into the story or concept of the game deeply so you can enjoy the game. Also certain games don't have the rule aspect in them either especially games that are open world with limited rule sets. Also a play activity is a very simple word and for certain game it is more about the story. In my opinion a play activity really only fits in the online game category. I've never heard of the game "Three to Fifteen" and I didn't know that this was another name for tic tac toe. When I look at games I like certain aspects about the game that make it interesting to me but other people may not be as interested in those aspects of the game. This is why there is a wide variety of games that are targeted to certain peoples interests. I also agree that everyone has different definitions of what games are.I never heard of the scamper technique before until now and I think that this technique is a very good way of gathering information about the game you are trying to create. Overall I think in the games industry there is so much open space for creativity and you are always racing to be the first to making certain ideas a reality.

I like this game because it is a good game to play with friends where you can have a good laugh and the rules aren't strict so you can create whatever you want or let someone else draw something of your choice.

I enjoy this game because it has a huge learning curve from building a base and then going out in an online pvp world where you can lose all your progress to someone else. Or you can go and do a raid and take over someone else's progress. This game is very fun for a long time with the only rules being the rules put in place by the admins of the game servers

I like this game because you can let your creativity run wild with very little stopping you from creating what you want.

 BETA This week I made my game a bit better by giving it some life. I created a terrain that I was happy with after I searched for a youtube video that helped me create terrain. I really liked exploring and creating the terrain and wish I could have made the terrain in my game be more of thing everywhere on the map rather than having some flat paths. I also changed my car as I was running issues where it drove backwards when i wanted it go forward but when I changed to a different car that seemed to fix it.  My Introduction Hello. my name is Endijs Frisvalds, I am a second year student at TU Blanchardstown and I am studying creative digital media. I am 19 years old living in Clondalkin a good 2 hour bus ride away from college. Game Idea Research

 Game Idea Research From my previous blog, I have given some thought on what I wanted to do. I decided to go with the following idea taken from my previous blog "For this idea I want the player to experience an open world like in GTA where you can drive around in the cars of your choice. In this game I want to create a map where there are coins or some thing scattered around the map. The map will have ramps and building with hidden coins. There will also be score which will award the player with coins currency which they can later use to get faster cars. An example of why you would want a faster car is not only because It's faster and cooler, but it will also allow player to get other coins that only a certain car can obtain. Let's say there is a ramp with a coin in the air. A slow car cannot reach the coin but a faster and better car can reach the coin. With the coins you can also customize whatever vehicle you have.
